Valve, the company behind popular PC game titles like Counter-Strike and Half-life is now entering the console market with the Steam Deck. After years of speculations on Valve’s entrant to the hand-held market, they just announced Steam Deck to compete with the Nintendo Switch.

Steam deck rolls with 3 storage options and a 7” LCD screen
The console is available in three variants 399$ 64GB version, 599$ 256GB NVMe fast storage option, and a 649$ 512GB anti-glare model with steam goodies. All options support expandable storage via the MicroSD slot.
The console also features a 7-inch 1280 x 800 LCD screen with an aspect ratio of 16:10. The screen goes up to 400 nits of brightness but is stuck at 60Hz of refresh rate. The Steam Deck also features two shoulder triggers on each side, and there are four back buttons (two on each side).
The console comes with the headphone jack and Bluetooth 5.0 for both wired and wireless users. It also supports Dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi along with built-in Microphones.
Powered by quad-core AMD APU and Fast Charging
The Steam deck will be the most powerful handheld in the market. It’ll run on an upgraded version of SteamOS, the Steam OS 3.0 based on Arch Linux. It also features a 40-Watt hour battery that supports 45W USB type C fast charging.

The console weighs roughly 670 grams, quite heavy compared to the 350-gram Switch OLED.
Valve also sells an additional steam dock for TV compatibility. The dock will support both DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 along with USB C charging. The pricing of the add-on accessory hasn’t been revealed yet.
IGN also got an exclusive sneak-peak at the model when they paid a visit to the Valve headquarters at Bellevue, Washington.
Gaming In-Sync with cross-platform Steam Library
Valve claims the console is capable of running ‘AAA’ titles for up to 2+ hours of gaming with less demanding 2D games, or web browsing capable of running for a maximum of 7-8 hours. The deck also lets you play your favorite titles on TV and lower-end PCs via the dock. IGN’s tech demo also showed the console running games like Control and Portal 2. Popular action titles like Tekken 7 and Hades were also seen playable on console.
The console comes with a carry case in the box and opens for pre-order today. It is expected to be available this holiday season for customers in the US, Canada, UK, and EU. Others can expect their consoles by early 2022.
