Twitch servers in India apparently went live a while ago, according to the server listing. However, there is no official statement regarding this from the company on these developments.
For people who still have no idea what is Twitch, it is one of the largest game live streaming platforms across the internet primarily focused on video game streaming and broadcasting.
Twitch India has recently added Mumbai and Chennai Indian servers, likely to make its way to India. According to reports, Twitch India servers, which were set up previously, but were offline, have now been activated. Confirming this, the server’s status report shows that the server is now online. This means that Twitch will now work better for streamers as well as viewers in India. Those facing issues with game streaming in India will now breathe a sigh of relief.
To ensure that creators and viewers get the best possible experience, the total capacity for the Mumbai Twitch server appears to be 480Gbps while the Chennai server has 40Gbps through Internet exchanges Extreme IX and DE-CIX according to peering facilitator PeeringDB.
When Twitch made it’s entry into the Indian market back in 2016, the lack of Indian servers was the major cause of concern for people from the gaming industry, who saw it as a roadblock back then. In the years after its exit in 2018, the service was seen as a platform for seeing unauthorised IPL streams. Its direct consequence was the fact that the site itself is banned by Indian Internet Service Provider – Jio.
