Riot is celebrating Valorant’s first anniversary with month-long events but the developer also has a special announcement for fans. Riot Games announced that Valorant, which was until now a PC exclusive, is coming to mobile platforms and it will be called Valorant Mobile.
Valorant’s Executive Producer Anna Donlon recently had a conversation with Polygon where she talked about the project. “The move to mobile started with a checklist of questions about what was core to Valorant and whether or not it could be accomplished on phones. If any of the items on the checklist couldn’t be done, then Riot wouldn’t continue the project. The most important thing for the team was ensuring that they weren’t delivering a comprised version of Valorant PC,” she said. They aim to make Valorant Mobile a unique mobile experience.
She further adds that the PC version of the game will not be affected by the mobile version. “The same way that we’re not going to deliver a subpar mobile experience for mobile players, we’re not going to compromise the PC experience either,” she said. “We’re not trying to convert Valorant PC players into Valorant Mobile players or vice versa.”
No cross-play feature
As Riot wants to keep both platform experiences unique, Donlon clarified that they have no plans for cross-play between the two versions of the game right now.
Valorant Mobile release date
As for the release date for Valorant Mobile, Donlon says, “we’re not confirming dates, but hopefully that’s something we’ll be able to see in year two.” Currently, Riot is basking in the success of the PC version of Valorant. The developer announced that “An average of more than 14 million PC players from around the world log on each month to play.”
