PUBG Mobile: PUBG Mobile may be permanently banned in India
Looks like PUBG Mobile might never get unbanned in India. According to a report from IGN India, various sources have stated that the government has no plans to unban PUBG Corporation’s popular mobile battle royale game in India. In the past, there have been attempts at getting some information out, but, as things stand, PUBG Mobile will most likely remain banned in India.
PUBG Mobile was banned in early September last year along with 118 other Chinese apps. Since then, fans have been wondering if PUBG Mobile will ever be unbanned in India.
PUBG Mobile ban permanent?
The report also states that sources familiar with the PUBG Mobile situation say that the game may never return in India.
“The authorities aren’t stupid, even if publishing duties have changed hands, the development of the game is still based in China,” says one source. “The entire exercise seems like putting lipstick on a pig.”
On the other hand, some are optimistic and hope to see the games return soon. “They don’t have the right team in place just yet to talk to the government,” says another source. “Hopefully discussions begin by March-April so Indian esports teams can participate by the second half of the year in international tournaments.” Back in December, Krafton Inc. appointed a new team for PUBG Mobile operations in India.
An RTI was also filed to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) of India asking if PUBG Mobile will ever be unbanned.
MEITY responded by saying-
“MeitY does not grant permission for starting of any websites / mobile Apps/service. Accordingly, MeitY has not granted permission to PUBG / PUBG mobile India.”
