PUBG Mobile India fails to receive approval from apex Child Rights Body
India’s apex Child Rights Body, which is a part of the National Commision for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), has announced that it will not be pertinent to relaunch PUBG Mobile in India until there are strict laws and regulations passed for such online games, according to officials.
PUBG Corp. and Krafton: now merged as PUBG Studio, are craving to get the game back to one of it’s biggest markets India. The officials of the newly registered entity PUBG India Pvt. Ltd. have been constantly trying to get in touch with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology: the body that banned the game in the first place, to discuss the proposal of launching PUBG Mobile India– a tailored version of the original game- that features improved in-game content that’s in-line with the Indian players.
Chairman of NCPCR not in favour of PUBG Mobile relaunch
In a meeting to discuss that proposal, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chairperson Priyank Kanoongo “strongly recommended” against the relaunch of the mobile app in India until appropriate legislations are in place for such online games, the officials said. Kanoongo told the PTI [Press Trust of India] that it was an internal meeting that was held to discuss the matter.
PUBG Mobile India launch uncertain
PUBG Mobile is one of the most popular games in the country and the game received a blow when it was banned in September by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology due to data security threats.
PUBG Corp. and Krafton: now merged as PUBG Studio, in November had unveiled PUBG Mobile India- a tailored version of the original game that promises to provide a secure and healthy gameplay environment alongside investments to cultivate esports, entertainment, and IT industries.
Things are not looking good for PUBG India Pvt. Ltd. as India’s top Child Rights Body itself is not in favor of launching the game. It is really hard to predict the future of the game as of now, with no leads from PUBG Studio or PUBG India Pvt. Ltd.
The game should be back soon in the country as amidst the ban, a lot of investment still remains diverted towards the Indian PUBG Mobile scene from various esports organizations.
