PUBG 2.0 may be under development for PC, Mobile & Consoles
Popular PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) leaker @PlayerIGN has claimed that PUBG 2.0 and PUBG Mobile 2.0 are under development for mobile, PC and console platforms. PUBG and PUBG Mobile have both been highly successful in India, at least till before the ban on the mobile version of the game.
There hasn’t been an official announcement from PUBG Corporation as of yet, so we’ll have to take this information with a pinch of salt.
Project XTRM was PUBG 2.0 all along
According to the document leaked by PlayerIGN, the secret Project XTRM: a project announced in early 2020 via a job listing for PUBG Korea is actually a sequel to PUBG or, PUBG 2.0. At the time Project XTRM according to PUBG Korea administrator is a new project which is being developed internally. There is no further disclosure yet, including who the director is.
PUBG 2.0 will be a successor to the PC and console multi-platforms and will also include a mobile edition- PUBG Mobile 2.0, just like its successful predecessor.
The game will be based on Unreal Engine 4, as several Project XTRM job listings from PUBG corp request Unreal Engine 4 experience.
PUBG 2.0 will feature crossplay
PlayerIGN later also mentioned that PUBG 2.0 will pack support cross-platform with PC, console and mobile. He recanted his claim just a few tweets later and mentioned that PUBG 2.0 will be cross-platform with PC and console.
PUBG 2.0 release date
The release date for PUBG Mobile 2.0 is not known yet and it’s unlikely it will release in 2021 but we are expecting an official confirmation later this year.
PUBG Studios could be wanting to revive the game
PUBG was one of the most popular games out there, in 2018, the game hit over 1 million concurrent Steam players on average for several months, peaking at 3.2 million concurrent players.
PUBG is nowhere to be seen now after receiving tough competition from game like Fortnite, Apex Legends and Call of Duty Warzone. The console versions for PUBG were not a great hit.
The Mobile version is doing great due to it’s versatility and is one of the biggest esport in the world.
PUBG 2.0 may be PUBG Studio’s efforts into revive the game, and bring back all the hype it carried in the previous years.
