If you’ve been waiting to get your hands on the PS5 console, we got bad news for you. PlayStation 5’s supply situation is not good and Sony doesn’t expect it to improve any time soon. According to Bloomberg, CFO Hiroki Totoki told analysts that it’s difficult for Sony to keep up with PlayStation 5’s demand and the shortage is likely to continue till 2022.

“I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand,” Totoki reportedly said. He also added, “We have sold more than 100 million units of the PlayStation 4, and considering our market share and reputation, I can’t imagine demand dropping easily.”

Sony is aiming to produce over 14 million PS5 units

In their latest financial report, Sony said that they plan to produce 14.8 million PlayStation 5 consoles in the financial year beginning April 2021. “In order to meet the strong demand from our customers, we will continue to work to secure components and strive to do our utmost to produce and sell more units than that target,” the company said.

Currently, PlayStation 5 is a highly sought-after console. But on the other hand, there is a global shortage of semiconductors and it is hampering the production of PS5 consoles and GPUs for PCs. Sony could also redesign the PS5 to make up for the semiconductor shortage.

PlayStation 5 hit the market on November 12, 2020, and within 5 months the console had managed to sell over 7.8 million units.
