23rd June marks as the 30th anniversary of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game, and Mojang is celebrating the boom by releasing a Sonic-themed DLC pack for Minecraft. This DLC doesn’t just include a bunch of cool skins, but it brings along an entire adventure around the Sonic, Sega’s icon beginnings.
A trailer was dropped down announcing the new content that shows off the kind of adventure it’ll take you go as the Sonic booms through the classic Minecraft zone. There’s a shot of Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy and Eggman all of which are playable with a bunch of special abilities attached to them.
The DLC Itself contains a hub through which you can control Sonic and his crew through familiar settings. It also starts off with a short tutorial teaching you the basics. Sonic can also run through speed boosts, loops and more, also the rings collected on the way can be spent to purchase more characters or extra lives.
The Hive, a Minecraft mini-game server is also going live soon with an official update coming to it bringing the new Sonic content. “You can also celebrate Sonic’s birthday by joining the special server event! Starting soon, The Hive are hosting a two-week server-hub takeover featuring mini-games and a few festive surprises. I heard a rumor that something special is happening on one of the weekends, so make sure to check in regularly!” – Minecraft.net
