Kurukshetra: Ascension is India’s first-ever card battling game being developed by Bengaluru-based Indie gaming studio, Studio Sirah.
In what shall be a proud moment for all of the Indian gaming community, the gaming studio has raised an amount to the tune of $830,000 to develop their first game – ‘Kurukshetra: Ascension‘. Studio Sirah raised the amount which approximately equals to 6 crore rupees in Indian currency, in a round of funding led by an Indian gaming-focused venture capital fund, Lumikai.
Two brothers, Prateek Shah and Abhaas Shah happen to be the founders of Studio Sirah. The gaming studio carries with it an aim to develop games that feature content based on an Indian setting, not just for Indian gamers, but the international gaming community as well.
The primary focus that Studio Sirah has, as of know, is to develop games that are mid-core in nature, whereas at the same time can be completed by players if they spend a limited amount of time. To simplify things, mid-core games bring with them the requirement of using skills and strategy to progress and thus, players are requested to be more invested in such a gaming title than a typical casual game.
Often featuring multiplayer gameplay setups, side quests, and resource management, mid-core games differ from casual games in this particular manner, where your goal in casual games is to simply solve a puzzle or complete a repetitive action.
Kurukshetra: Ascension – Studio Sirah’s first game
The first title that shall be released from the Indie gaming studio of Studio Sirah, Kurukshetra: Ascension will be a card battler game based on Indian epics of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. In these kinds of games, the central theme is card battling.
The game’s description on the website reads –
“Earn hundreds of unique cards and outplay your opponents in thrilling online duels. Battle mythical monsters and ancient gods in a legendary campaign of ascension where your decisions determine the fate of the universe,”
The game will include fictionalised stories and characters with the focus on “strategic gameplay, immersive art, and a deep progression system.” It shall into its narrative be weaving themes of philosophical and religious thought, an aspect that shall be instrumental in making this gaming title belong to the category of a mid-core game. Along with this, the two brothers shall adding their own stories and characters to tell a more modern story.
