IGX Creators Summit 2021
IGX Creators Summit 2021, India’s first B2B virtual event for gaming is aimed at enlightening everyone that is looking to make a mark in the gaming ecosystem. Today’s panel covered the topic “Game streaming as a legitimate career“ and it was moderated by Mr. Sagar Nair- Co-Founder, Times of Esports, and Co-Founder and CEO at Qlan.
The panel featured prominent personalities from Indian gaming including Mortal (Gamer), Total Gaming (Gamer & Streamer), Abhishek Aggarwal (Co-Founder and CEO – Trinity Gaming), and Game Guru (Content Creator).
At the IGX Creators Summit 2021, they shared their thoughts on the obstacles they faced, the current state of the esports scene in India, and how they made it big by making streaming a legitimate career.
Gaming as a career option
Sagar believes that “India will lead the next big disruption in gaming” and it is also one of the fastest-growing segments in the country. When asked about how exactly can one make a career in gaming, the panelists had some interesting points to share.
Mr. Abhishek Aggarwal, Co-Founder, and CEO – Trinity Gaming says, “Gaming is something that offers multiple career paths. We have professional athletes, content creators, support staff like creative support teams that moderate social media content for creators, graphic designers, and video editors. Moreover, there are also those who are working at organizing tournaments. Gaming Space has something for everyone and there are a lot of opportunities to get into esports in India.”
Naman “Mortal” Mathur, one of the most popular gamers from the country thinks right now, the foundation for properly identifying gaming as a career is being laid. “Before going viral, most of us were just going with the flow. We had unavoidable downfalls and we were at some low points in life. But now, the scenario is different. We have learned a lot and we can predict downfalls. Like me, there are several others who can guide budding, passionate gamers in their journey.”
Aggarwal further adds, “There are a lot of people to teach young engineers and doctors but there is no education in place for gaming. That scenario can now change as there are people who can guide those who want to enter this industry.”
Game Guru says, “I had a lot of responsibility on my shoulder but I went with streaming because I was passionate about it. I would advise that everyone should become financially stable before trying their hand at streaming. Once you have enough confidence and stability, overcome all the negative thoughts and go ahead with your passion and give it your all.”
How exactly does one get into the industry?
The entire gaming ecosystem is correlated. We all need each other and by helping each other, we can directly help in the growth of gaming in the country.
The guests shared their views on how one can get started with a career in gaming. For a game streamer, it’s necessary to stay consistent and disciplined and keep on putting valued, unique content. Gaming has a vast presence on social media. Connections can be established through various social media platforms and one can network his or her way up and solidify their footing in the industry.
Aggarwal says “We have a standard set of how things are done. We can scout talents from various organizations that hold scrims and give players a chance to showcase their skills.” This way, an ecosystem is being built and players can be picked up by different teams.
Change in outlook about esports
Esports and gaming are still frowned upon and many youngsters face backlash from their parents. When asked about how this narrative can be changed, here’s what our guests had to say.
Mortal says, “Right now we are in a position where, as content creators, we can plan ahead and show parents that gaming as a subject can be made into a career. Currently, there is no security in this industry. There is a need for more organizations that will inadvertently create more competition and more tournaments will be organized. This will further lead to an increase in the number of players and the involvement of others in the ecosystem will also increase. This will create employment and also provide a boost for the growth of esports in the country. Looking at that, everyone will feel secure, including the parents, and eventually, we will witness a shift in outlook on esports.”
Discipline and dedication
Discipline is an important factor that is required if you want to succeed at anything today, regardless of what your career might be. If you’re into a creative career, you might easily lose motivation but giving up shouldn’t be an option.
Mortal says “Gaming is growing rapidly. Motivation comes and goes and you need to channelize your consciousness. No matter what the future holds, give your 100% today. Understand what will make your channel grow- quality content, good gameplay, entertainment, all of these things.”
Game Guru says, “I feel entertainment is what binds viewers to the channel. Entertainment coupled with discipline and hard will surely get me more audience. Also, it’s important to have fun!”
“I stick to a schedule. A specific time at which I start my stream and I stick to it. This has worked for me as my viewers know exactly when I’m going to come online and they are there with me on the stream at that time,” added Total Gaming.
The panel ended with guests sharing some parting thoughts with their fans. Mortal asked fans to keep in mind that there are multiple options in the gaming industry. Total Gaming reiterated that while communication skills, good conduct, and discipline are necessary, you must have fun in whatever you’re doing.
