Rockstar Games announced today, that Grand Theft Auto Online will soon be going dark as they decide to stop the open-world online services from 16th December for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Rockstar Games also mentioned that this is done in order to continue the growth and support for the Grand Theft Auto Online for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC as well as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S version which are set to launch this fall.
This will bring down the end of a seven-year-long legacy of the Grand Theft Auto Online, which went live back on 1st October 2013.
As they plan on shutting it down completely, no in-game currency will be available for sale for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version of the game from 15th September onwards.
“Please note, these changes are strictly for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA Online, and will have no impact on access to, or progress within, the Grand Theft Auto V Story Mode. Additionally, website stat tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club and other features for select PS3 and Xbox 360 titles will be shutting down on September 16, 2021. These include: Leaderboards, Stat tracking and online multiplayer for Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire.” – Rockstar Games Support
