Developer Tango Gameworks and publisher Bethesda have released a new gameplay trailer for their upcoming action-adventure title Ghostwire: Tokyo. It showcases the supernatural and horror elements that await players in the city of Tokyo.
As Shibuya’s citizens vanish in an unnatural fog, the masked occultist Hannya addresses the gathering evil spirits, proclaiming a new age.

A look at Ghostwire: Tokyo’s gameplay
As the name suggests, the game is set in Tokyo where a mysterious fog has caused everyone, except the player character, to disappear. Players will slowly learn that the city is flocked with a variety of supernatural foes like-
- Agile spirits in the form of headless high school students attack in groups, using speed and acrobatics to catch you off-guard
- Dolls based on traditional teru teru bozu weather charms that fly through the air, as if hoisted on invisible strings, and shoot fire from a distance
- Faceless ghosts that roam rainy environments in funeral attire that can deflect attacks with their umbrella as they approach to strike at close-range
Players have to master “Ethereal Weaving” to command the power of wind, water, and fire and eliminate these beings. Combine this with platforming elements and progress through the narrative to put a stop to antagonist Hannya and his plans. You can read more about the game in the PlayStation blog post.
The game was supposed to release this year
Ghostwire: Tokyo was supposed to release in the Fall of 2021 but back in July, the developer announced a delay in the launch as they wanted to “focus on protecting the health of everyone working at Tango.” Ghostwire: Tokyo is now scheduled to release in Spring 2022 for PlayStation 5 and Windows.
The game on PS5 will feature faster load times, crisp graphic detail, 3D audio, and more. Combine that with DualSense Controllers haptic feedback and adaptive trigger features, and you will have an enhanced gameplay experience.
