TiMi Studios, a subsidiary of Chinese tech giant Tencent and the developer behind popular online mobile games like Call of Duty: Mobile and Honor of Kings generated $10 billion in 2020, according to a report by Reuters. TiMi Studios has now become the world's largest video game developer.
Call of Duty: Mobile is published by Activision and was launched for Android and iOS devices in October 2019. CODM had one of the biggest mobile game launches after it saw 148 million downloads and generated approximately $54 million in its first month.
TiMi moving beyond mobile games?
According to the report, after generating such a massive revenue, TiMi Studios is planning to move beyond the realms of mobile gaming towards developing AAA titles for different platforms like PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch consoles. The company plans to compete head-to-head against European, Japanese, Korean, and American video game giants.
CODM's rising popularity
Call of Duty: Mobile may not have a massive player base like PUBG Mobile but it still puts up impressive numbers. CODM features a 4.5/5 star rating on the Play Store and a 4.7/5 star rating on the App Store. Today the game has been downloaded by over 250 million Android and iOS users and has generated a revenue of upwards of $450 million.
Even though CODM has a battle royale mode, it is not as good as that of PUBG Mobile. Fans enjoy CODM for its multiplayer modes and the content that developers keep on adding the form of new maps, new weapons, agents, skins, and more with every season.
