The Paris based Cyber Group studios has signed a co-development and co-production deal with the Japanese video game company Sqaure Enix and will be working on accommodating the fantasy, adventure game Final Fantasy 9 into an animated series aimed at an audience aged from 8-13 year olds.
Cyber Group studios won’t only be working on the development and production, but their part also includes the worldwide distribution, licensing and merchandise for the upcoming Final Fantasy 9 animated series.
“The company is putting the finishing touches on a project bible, and plans to begin pitching it to broadcasters in the coming months” says Pierre Sissmann, CEO of Cyber Group Studios. While episode count and length had not been finalized at press time, Sissmann says the goal is to begin production by the end of 2021 or beginning of 2022.
The story of Final Fantasy 9 centers around a thief who kidnapped a princess and then teams up with her to save his kingdom from evil forces. This title was officially launched back in 2000, selling more than five million copies worldwide.
Though, there have been Television occurrences in the past to adapt the Final Fantasy series, but it’s the first time that the Final Fantasy 9 specifically will be converted into an animated series intended for kids.
Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the Final Fantasy 9, which is still a nice game to play around with a few customs remastered mods. Final Fantasy 9 is available on Steam for $21 and also available on the Humble Store and Windows Store.
“The games have a strong co-viewing potential. For those who do know Final Fantasy IX , this will be an [introduction],” Sissmann says. “And for the many who don’t, this will immerse them in a universe they’ll love.”
