Currently pursuing masters in technology from the esteemed institution of IIT Guwahati in Technology, Hemanth Kommu took the competitive Indian Esports scenario by storm, after securing a place in the finals of Esports World Championship. His preferred choice of game was in the really popular football gaming title of Pro Evolution Soccer, where he showcased exceptional skill and prowess, which helped him secure a win and moving onto the next leg of the tournament.
Esports World Championship – India’s first official entry into the finals
After a stellar performance in the Regional Qualifiers, Hemanth Kommu, the reigning national champion, advanced to the Finals of the 13th Esports World Championship. Hemanth became the first Indian to qualify for the Finals of the ongoing Esports World Championships with a top-place result in PES 2021 in the South Asia Region. At the Regional Qualifiers, which were held online due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Vijayawada native, who is presently doing his Masters from IIT Guwahati, faced athletes from Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka in his respective South Asian Region.
“It’s a great feeling to represent India in the PES series, the game which I have loved playing since my childhood days. It’s sheer dedication and hard work resulted in getting the spot in the Finals of EWC’21 and it allowed me a chance to bring the laurels for the country. Other teams competing for a berth in the Esports World Championship
Team India CS:GO, which includes captain Ritesh Sarda, Shuvajyoti Chakraborty, Anshul Adardkar, Hrishikesh Shenoy, and Harsh Jain, as well as Tekken 7 player Hitesh Khorwal, will compete in the Regional Qualifiers later this month in order to qualify for the World Championship Finals on October 5. The matches will be broadcast live on the official platforms of the International Esports Federation.
