A couple of hours ago, EA revealed their upcoming shooter title Battlefield 2042. As the name suggests, the game is set in 2042 where decade-long chaos caused by natural calamities, collapsing economies, and broken alliances have pushed humanity to the brink of war. Battlefield 2042 is a fight for survival.
Battlefield 2042 will not have a single-player mode. Instead, players will be treated to a new game mode called All-Out Warfare which is a combination of Conquest and Breakthrough game modes. All-Out Warfare matches will allow 128 players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, whereas, on older generation consoles, the number is 64 players. Accommodating these players will require massive maps and with Battlefield 2042, EA has done just that.
Battlefield 2042 features massive-scale maps
Maps in Battlefield 2042 offer several avenues for combat and promise a new gameplay experience for players. EA says ‘Battlefields have multiple distinct combat areas housed in a single playspace and this extra space means more variety and more meaningful vehicle gameplay.’ Let’s take a look at Battlefield 2042 maps-
Orbital will take players to Kourou in French Guiana. Players will have to keep an eye on the incoming enemy fire as well as raging storms on this map which set around a rocket launch site.
A map set in Doha, Qatar where massive dust and sand storms are a common sight. In this map where vision is obstructed because of low natural light, players will fight for control of a trapped convoy.
Kaleidoscope is based in the metropolitan region of South Korea. Players can use grappling hooks and other kinds of equipment to zipline between skyscrapers in a fight that takes place around the city’s data centre.
Manifest is an important trade location that is crucial to the American supply line. Players must navigate their way through large cargo containers and fight their way through hordes of enemies and tropical tornadoes,
Set along the Indian west coast, Discarded features abandoned ships that are stripped for parts. Players must fight among the hulls of these ships while surviving deadly storms.
Oil is a valuable resource and players will fight tooth and nail for it in Breakaway. In this map set in Antarctica, players must be aware of their surroundings and take advantage of destructible fuel tanks and silos.
A map set in Egypt featuring a massive wall that divides the rich and the poor. Players must secure various access points and gates on the wall.
Dive into these maps on October 22
Players can get a taste of all the action when the game releases on October 22 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, and PC through Steam, Origin, and the Epic Games store. EA has also planned official gameplay reveal on June 13. Battlefield 2042 will have an open beta across all platforms before launch and if someone pre-orders the game, they will get early access to the open beta.
